OAS & Los Kitos hit the airwaves
The "Los Kitos" radio
show is now being broadcast throughout the countries of Latin America thanks
to the Organization of American States (OAS). As part of its weekend magazine
show, the OAS is including a six-minute "Los Kitos" segment. The
"Los Kitos" radio show features the characters from the comic strip
"Los Kitos," which appears weekly in 305 newspapers worldwide. The
segment centers around the adventures of Pikito, Mima, and Picarito as they
learn to balance cultural traditions with the issues that children's face
in the world today. The stories utilize simple writing and humor to deliver
a positive, values-based message. One-hundred and fifty radio stations are
carrying the broadcast. In the United States, a thirty-minute "Los Kitos"
radio show can be heard from California to Florida.
Mario Martinez y Palacios, the Senior Public Information Officer for the OAS,
is the broadcaster for the show. Palacios, who has been involved in broadcasting
and journalism for the past 25 years, said that the OAS support for the program
"is a result of the organization's policy to help working women in their
business endeavors, as well as to meet the needs of children in Latin American
countries, who do not have much entertainment geared specifically to them.
